Caring for Your Pieces
A note from me about how these are made, and how to keep them looking right.
How they're made
Every piece is designed in-house and put through several rounds of sampling before we approve a single one for production. We have a team on the ground overseas inspecting every order before it leaves the factory. By the time something ships to you, it has been through more eyes and more hands than I can count.
That process is why these can live on a shelf instead of in a closet. It's also why a few small habits will keep them looking exactly the way they did the day they arrived.
Acrylic
Wipe with a soft, dry cloth. Cotton or microfiber, nothing abrasive. If something needs more than a dry wipe, use a slightly damp cloth with a drop of mild soap, then dry immediately.
Avoid:
- Alcohol, acetone, and any cleaning spray. Solvents lift hand-painted detail.
- Abrasive cloths or scrubbers. Acrylic shows scratches.
- Direct sun for long stretches. Sunlight over months will dull pigment.
- Heat. Don't leave a piece in a hot car or close to a stove. Acrylic warps under sustained heat.
Wood
Wipe with a soft, dry cloth. For deeper cleaning, use a barely damp cloth and dry immediately. Don't soak, don't submerge, don't leave water sitting on the surface.
Avoid:
- Harsh chemicals, ammonia-based cleaners, and anything labeled for stone or tile.
- Direct sun for long stretches. Wood fades and dries out.
- Sudden humidity changes. Wood expands and contracts and can crack.
- Heat sources. Don't set a wood piece directly on a hot surface.
Vegan leather
Wipe with a dry or barely damp cloth. Spot-clean spills as soon as you notice them.
Avoid:
- Real-leather conditioners and oils. These are formulated for hide and can damage synthetic leather.
- Alcohol and solvents.
- Direct sun for long stretches. Vegan leather cracks and fades over time.
- Heat. Synthetic leather will deform.
Neoprene
Hand-wash with cool water and a small amount of mild soap. Air-dry flat. Never machine-wash, never machine-dry.
Avoid:
- Bleach and harsh detergents.
- Direct sun for long stretches. Sun degrades neoprene over time.
- Folding tightly for long periods. Creases will set.
Delicate fabric
Spot-clean only, with cool water and a small amount of mild detergent. Air-dry flat. If a care label is sewn in, the label takes precedence over what's written here.
Avoid:
- Bleach.
- Hot water and the dryer.
- Direct sun for long stretches.
- Friction. Don't scrub stains, blot them.
If something goes wrong
If a piece develops a flaw that doesn't trace back to use, please write to customer care hello@miseenmahjong.com with a photo. We design and sample these to last, and on the rare occasion something doesn't, I want to know about it.
